Anne Marie Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany on June 12, 1929. In 1933, Anne's father moved to Amsterdam. With the 1940 invasion by the German Nazis, deportations and anti-Jewish measures increased, and on July 6, 1942, the familly moved into the "Secret Annez," a hidden four-room attic space where they hid until Aug. 3, 1944.

During that time, Anne kept a diary in which she wrote about the fears, hopes, and daily existence of her family. Her final entry was on Aug. 1, 1944, two days before they were discovered by Nazi troops. Anne and her sister Margot died at Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp in March, just two months before the liberation of the camp by allied troops. At the time of her death, Anne was 15.
