Programs and Activities

Special programs:
Science Camp, inclusion program, Bluebonnet Bowl, literacy celebrations, leadership projects, field days, award assemblies

After-school programs:
Explorers, a teacher facilitated academic-based afterschool care program is available five days a week from 3-6 p.m. Tutoring for reading and math is offered before school. Super Saturdays begin in the spring to reinforce academic skills.

Extracurricular activities:
Many PTA-sponsored clubs: Chess club, math competition team, drama club, Arboretum programs, art club, Go Van Gogh, basketball, soccer, choir, student council, Cub Scouts, and Spirit Leaders.

Parent Involvement

The PTA hosts monthly meetings, an annual carnival, clubs, and the White Home Tour & Rock Art Festival. Hexter also has an active SBDM and a Dad's Club. New this year is our first Annual Hexter Howl 5K and costume Fun Run!

Our school is named for a former president of the Dallas Board of Education and member of the Dallas City Council. Victor H. Hexter was born on March 21, 1864, in Baltimore, Ma. He received his law degree in Memphis, Tenn., and in 1887 moved to Dallas to practice. From the very beginning, Hexter was interested in the work of his church, civic programs, and the government in Dallas. He died in Dallas, on Jan. 25, 1951.
