Mrs. Martha Turner Reilly was born on a southern plantation in Enterprise, Miss., on March 12, 1866, and died February 5, 1949. Her father was a captain in the Confederate Army, a Methodist minister, and a circuit rider. She moved to Texas when she was a young girl. She married William Madison Reilly and had three children -- Wallace, Ruth, and Marie.

Reilly was a very active worker in study and cultural clubs throughtout her life. She was a member of the state as well as local Parent Teacher Association. She was the president of the Congress of Mothers Clubs at Colonial School.In 1906, she founded the organization that was the forerunner of the Parent Teachers Association in Dallas. Martha Turner Reilly Elementary School was dedicated in March 1956, the anniversary of Reilly's birth.
