George Washington Truett, pastor, teacher, and leader, was born in North Carolina in 1867 and died in 1944. He began his teaching career at the age of 18 and eventually established an academy with a student body of 300.

Truett graduated from Baylor University and eventually became its president. He served until his death as the leader of the First Baptist Church of Dallas. Truett was well known throughout the United States as a preacher, leader and educator.
