The school is named for Dr. Rosie M. Collins Sorrels. Dr. Sorrells is a former Dallas ISD employee, who touched the lives of many students during her 24 years with the district. During her years of service to the district, Dr. Sorells worked as a teacher, and district administrator. As Director of the Dallas ISD's ECE Department, she was responsible for providing leadership to over 3000 teachers located in 127 ECE schools and centers. After retiring from the Dallas ISD, Dr. Sorrells continued to provide leadership in education by serving on the Texas State Board of Education. She represented District 13 for two terms in 1994 and 1998. The TWU Distinguished Alumni Award and and the Outstanding Educator distinction are but a few of the accolades Dr. Sorrells has received for her dedicated service. She continues to work within the community involved in promoting educational endeavors.
