Justin Ford Kimball was one of Texas' most versatile and successful citizens. He was born on a farm near Huntsville, Texas, with a family background of teachers, preachers, and scholars. At an early age, he learned to speak both Hebrew and Greek, and by the time he was twenty-seven years old he had earned three college degrees. Later in life, he was honored with a Doctor of Law degree from Baylor University.

Kimball's professional interests were varied. In addition to teaching school at every level from elementary to college, he was superintendent of several Dallas schools. At one time, he was vice president of Baylor University.

Kimball not only owned several farms but also was a lawyer, an insurance executive, the founder of Blue Cross Hospitalization Plan, and the author of Our Dallas, which has been adopted as the official history of the city.
