Major Awards and Honors

Samuell High School is the only DISD that has won a state championship in baseball. This was accomplished in 1965. Samuell High School was rated academicall acceptable for the 2009 - 2010 school year.

The school is named after the late William Worthington Samuell (1878 - 1937). Mr. Samuell was a reknown and wealthy surgeon, land owner, and philanthropist in and around Dallas. He served as a doctor in World War One and is credited with saving the lives of many soldiers. In 1911 he donated the first ambulance to the City of Dallas. Upon his death it was revealed in his will that he wanted all of his lands, some 1700 acres, donated to the City of Dallas to serve as parks and not for development or to be sold. Today several parks in Dallas still exist according to his will as well as Samuell Farm in Mesquite. Samuell Boulevard is named after him as well.
