Our school was named for Margaret B. Henderson, a principal of San Jacinto Elementary School in the early 1900s. She lived in Oak Cliff and rarely missed a day of work. Her sense of responsibility for her students was so strong that even when the Trinity River was at flood level, she rowed across in a small boat to be at school for them. The school opened in 1941. The words inscribed over the front door of the school express her commitment to education and children: "Welcome to Learn".
