Lida Hooe was born on September 14,1875, in Hungerford, Texas. She graduated from Dallas High School as valedictorian in 1892.

Lida Hooe School was named Sunset Hill School when it first was organized in 1920. The main building was finished in 1923, and in 1924 the name of the school was changed to Lida Hooe in memory of the former teacher and writing supervisor.
