A Confederate General, John B. Hood was born June 29, 1831, in Owingsville, Ky. He was the son of a doctor and attended West Point. He served as cadet under Robert E. Lee in Texas. In May of 1863, he made Brigadier General, was put in command of the Texas Brigade, and saw battle at Seven Days, Second Manassas, Sharpsburg, and Fredericksburg. Both he and his wife Anna Marie died of yellow fever in 1879.
