The Word "Winnetka," which is of Indian origin, means "Beautiful Place."

Winnetka school began in 1914 as a complex of portable buildings on the site of W.E. Greiner Junior High School. In 1939, Winnetka became its own campus at 1151 S. Edgefield Ave. Since then, two major new wings and one modular building have been added to the original building.
