William M. Anderson Jr. was the senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church from 1916 to 1935. In 1921, the first free clinic to treat children regardless of creed or color was started in the basement of the church. The clinic continues today as a part of Children's Medical Center. William M. Anderson Elementary School was opened in 1958 in a permanent building in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. The school was one of seven schools added to the distict that year, and the President of the Board of Education, E.L. Rippy, submitted Anderson's name as a community leader who helped care for the children of Dallas.
