Programs and Activities

Special programs:
*School Newspaper- Students generated Newspaper highlighting Campus Activies/News *Theatre/Drama- The Soto Drama club offers students opportunities to create and recreate stories in the form of Readers Theatre, short plays, skits and or small productions. *Stars Deliver- A student run mail delivery service which allows all students the opportunity to write, send and receive in school mail. *Science Club- Students create and maintain vegitable garden and a school pond.

After-school programs:
Tutoring, Texas Workforce Commission Afterschool Program.

Extracurricular activities:
*Cheerleading- Students promote school spirit. *Boys & Girls Basketball Teams- students learn necessary basketball skills and healthy competition. *Art Club- students learn about and generate various type of art. *Choir- students use their musical abilities to sing and perform for various school functions. *Folkorico- Students learn about customs and dances from Latin culture.

Parent Involvement

*Monthly parent meetings which focuses on a variety of parenting skills. *Coffee with the pricipal provides parents with schoolwide educational information. *Volunteer Program offers school and educational support through registered and trained parents/community members. *PTA is a national organization which helps parents and teachers work together for the benefit of students. *Family Night promote family unity in an educational setting.


Celestino Mauricio Soto, Jr. was born in Dallas, TX in 1953. While in high school, Celestino excelled in the ROTC Military program. He was also a member of the swim team and participated in the marching band. Celestino spent his summer vacations working with children at the West Dallas Boys Club. He grauated from Crozier Tech High School in 1970 and earned a degree from Mountain View College. After his schooling, Celestino enlisted in the United States Navy. He served aboard three US Naval Carriers: the USS America, USS independence and USS Eisenhower. Upon leaving the Navy in 1980, he returned to Dallas and served four years in the Naval Reserves followed by 12 years of service in the Army National Guard. Celestino and his wive Patsy married young and they had eight children, three of whom are autistic. This influence Celestino to learn about the effects of autism and he became involved in the lives of many other disabled and mentally ill children. He also became a faithful volunteer in the DISD programs and with other organizations that helped kids, including the Special Olympics. Celestino Mauricio Soto Jr died in July of 2002.
