After-school programs:
Dallas Parks and Recreation After School Program—Students participate in various life skills activities and tutoring from 3:00—6:00, Monday through Friday. Snacks are provided.
Extracurricular activities:
Yearbook-Students work with the Instrctional Technologist and GT Teacher toprovide an in-house publication of the years’ activities.
Science Club-Students participate weekly in inquiry-based, hands-on enrichment activites.
Each Wednesday during the spring semester students have the opportunity to participate in social development activities such as dance, gardening, reading club, scrapbooking, sewing, drama and many other activities.

Parent Involvement
Through our SBDM, PTA and Volunteer Program, parents can be actively involved in helping to ensure that all students receive a quality education.
Major Awards and Honors
John W. Runyon has received numerous awards such as the DISD Effective School Awards, Recognition from the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers, and Recognition for Maintaining an Accident Free Facility. Also, our students have received awards for DISD Science Fairs, Math Olympiad, and Writing Contests.
