Programs and Activities

Special programs:
O. W. Holmes Middle School and Classical Academy is a unique "School within a School" in that it shares many activities with the rest of the student body while carrying on its many specialized activities as a humanities and communications academy. Some academic course offerings for students are: creative writing, Journalism, speech, gymnastics, and Spanish.

After-school programs:
Reading Strategies and Practice, Tutoring, Theater Arts, and Cheerleaders Saturday School Academic Camps 1st Century Before and After-School Program (Twirlers, Steppers, Girls Mentoring, Choir, Drumline, Positive Young Teens, Math Drill Team, Physical Fitness, Keyboarding, JROTC/CCC, and Future Leaders Program (Bickle and Brewer Foundation)

Oliver Wendell Holmes, American author and physician, (1809-1894), was born in Cambridge, Mass. He was a graduate of Harvard University (B.A. in 1829; M.D. in 1836). He began his medical career as a general practitioner, but went into the academic field, becoming a professor of anatomy and physiology at Dartmouth College (1838-40), dean of the Harvard Medical School (1847-53), and Parkman professor of anatomy and physiology at Harvard.
