William Brown Miller was at one time the most successful cotton planter and stock-raiser in Dallas. He moved from Alabama to Texas in the year 1847. He married Emma Miller and was father of eight children. Miller owned 7,500 acres of land in what is now Oak Cliff and also owned a ferry service on the Trinity River. He and his family built the famous Millermore Mansion, one of the only existing antebellum structures located in Old City Park. The Millermore Mansion was the inspiration for developing the Dallas Historical Society.
