Hampton Samuel Thompson (1868-1936) was a native of Columbia, S.C. He attended Benedict College in Columbia and later graduated from Biddle College in Charlotte, N.C. He moved to Texas in 1884, and in 1900, became teacher-in-charge of Dallas High School, now B.F. Darrell Elementary School. From 1905 to 1907, he was principal of Number 2 School, which now is Booker T. Washington High School. In 1907, he became assistant superintendent of the Deaf, Dumb, and Blind Institute in Austin, Texas, serving for five years. Upon returning to Dallas, he was reassigned as the principal of Dallas High School, serving from 1913 to 1924, when he became ill. He died in 1936.
