Major Awards and Honors

A Texas Education Agency "RECOGNIZED" School for 2006

Robert Lee Thornton was a banker and civic leader who began his working career as a cotton picker. He later became a successful businessman by raising and selling cattle. He organized the Dallas Citizens Council, an organization for businessmen who influenced the direction of the city. Thornton received many awards and citations for the completion of Love Field, the expansion of City Hall, the public library, and the improvement of the city's water system.
