1) Dress comfortably for your audition but look nice. Don't feel like you need to put on a formal dress or wear a suit. Just wear a solid color shirt and some khakis or a skirt. Put your very best foot forward but don't over-do it.
2) Memorize your script. This is one of the biggest things that the selection committee is watching. You need to be able to walk in and just rattle it off a couple times in a row. They may give you a few pointers once you get there. Listen, relax and smile. TV is fun.
3) Smile. Think about it--do you want to see someone on TV who's nervous and frowning? Just smile and be yourself. Be comfortable. It's only an audition. The sun will come up the next morning no matter what happens.
4) Be prepared. I can't say this enough. Just be ready and confident. You don't want to walk in and feel like "Oh, I wish I would have practiced more." Your best bet is to memorize the script and then practice it in front of a mirror at least 3 times. Once you feel comfortable in front of yourself, then you're about ready.
5) Understand that the selection committee can't pick everyone. Last year, 80 students sent in applications to become cast members of School Zone Dallas. Only about 9 students are selected each year and they try to pick students from as many different schools as they can. The selection process is difficult because there are so many talented students in the district. Definitely try out but know that if you're not selected, it's not the end of your television career.
6) Don't worry when you mess up-the crew is great, they really understand you.
7) If you're selected for the cast, be sure you're available
for anything they may call you for and take advantage of any opportunites
they may send your way. They definitely have your best interests in mind!
