September 22, 2011 AnnouncementsSTUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS September 22, 2011 Trinidad “Trini” Garza Early College High School at Mountain View College receives the Texas Honors Circle Awards for Public Education Excellence Trinidad “Trini” Garza Early College HighSchoolis a recipient of theTexas Comptroller’s 2011 Texas Honors Circle Award, which recognizes schools and districts that are achieving academic success through cost-effective operations. Award recipients achieve strong academic performance while spending relatively little compared to their peers. Dr. Janice Lombardi, Principal of Garza Early College High School at Mountain View College, stated that “Garza ECHS has established a culture of learning where students utilize the resources at hand to manage their learning. This reliance on self-management of learning and self-discipline carry over to cost-effectiveness. Systems thinking helps students perform well academically and saves money!”
1. Today is Trini Garza’s birthday! He is our school’s namesake and a pillar of our community. There will be guests on campus today so please greet them with a smile. Follow all the rules! Change classes quietly!
2. MVC Spirit Week ~ Surprise, surprise, surprise! · On Thursday, it is CRAZY SOCK DAY. Wear your crazy socks. Get your card punched. · On Friday, it isGREEN DAY. Show your “Go Green” spirit! Wear green! If you have a green shirt, you can wear jeans. Get your card punched in the Office of Student Life. Get a prize.
3. Hispanic Heritage Month~ Please check the MVC schedules. There are many speakers who will be here including Rory Kennedy, Robert Kennedy’s daughter. Raul Magdaleno will give a speech on Integrity Leadershipon September 29 at 12:30 in S1029-1030.
4. PTSA ~The class who has the highest number of students joining the PTSA will have an ice cream social at the end of September.Seniors who join will receive a blue and white cord at graduation.
5. Senior Meeting~ The senior meeting with Jostens at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in B149. Be there so you know about academic regalia (cap and gown)!
6. Advisory Periods on Tuesdays and Thursday~ Tuesdays is for SAT vocabulary development and Thursdays is for ANNOUNCEMENTSJAdvisory periods ARE NOT “free” periods! They are a time to focus on communication!
7. Junior State Association (JSA)~ If anyone is interested in joining JSA, please see Samantha Garza. They are looking for a few good candidates! Car wash this weekend!
8. Nuts and Bolts ~ · Dress Code –Hoodies must be zippered/button up or ECHS. No cover-up for the uniform logo! · No throwing balls outside or inside. If a ball is taken up, it will be $5.00 to get it back · All basketball practice must have an adult present in the gym. · No one can use the lockers in the MVC locker rooms. The locks will be cut next Wednesday. Please remove all of your items before then.
