Teacher of the Year/Teacher Assistant of the Year Awards

Every year each of the Dallas ISD schools selects its campus-level Teacher of the Year and Teacher Assistant of the Year.  In addition, all schools are eligible to submit these names for consideration in the selection of the district-level Teacher of the Year and Teacher Assistant of the Year.  The Teacher and Teacher Assistant of the Year are selected based on their ability to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and levels of ability.  The following criteria are considered:

• A concern for students and the capability to inspire them

  2012-13 Teacher of the Year Finalists

    
      
• The ability and willingness to work cooperatively with colleagues
  
• A drive to initiate activities that improve instruction for students
  
• An ability to work effectively with diverse groups in the community
  
• The desire to stay informed of current educational theories and practices
  
• Examples of innovations started in the classroom           

Meshonda Cole Kennedy-Curry Middle School 2012 Dallas ISD Teacher of the Year            "I encourage educators to make student growth and success a priority in schools. In my 10 years in education, I have focused on providing the best service to my school commmunity, my students, and their parents through consistent engagement and involvement in positive activities. I challenge educators to create a strong parental support system and to build a relationship with their students to motivate and challenge them to reach their full individual potential.  Students should know that failure is not an option, regardless of their background."    Meshonda Cole is honored as Teacher of the Year

Michelle Huddleston Central Elementary School 2012 Dallas ISD Teacher Assistant of the Year "I am committed to help guide students toward becoming lifelong critical thinkers, reflective learners, and global contributors to a society who views them as college and career ready and prepared for personal successes. Collaborating with a diverse group of professionals and utilizing resources to achieve multi-faceted, equitable, comprehensive goals, I believe it is imperative to continue amongst members who are committed to the overall development of well-rounded, healthy students, providing services, and enabling success." Michelle Huddleston is named Teacher Assistant of the Year

Karen Marx North Dallas High School 2011 Dallas ISD Teacher of the Year "My passion for teaching is a reflection of the love of learning that was a gift to me from my parents and the great educators I have been privileged to know in my own life. I hope that my enthusiastic quest for knowledge has been, and will continue to be, as contagious to my students and fellow educators as theirs has been for me. I know that I will carry this experience with me as I continue my journey as an educator and will always look back on this year as one of the highlights of my career."

Angela Linco Martin Weiss Elementary School 2011 Dallas ISD Teacher Assistant of the Year "There are no words to describe all the beautiful emotions I have experienced as 2011 Dallas ISD Teacher of the Year. This experience will live with me forever.
