Every year each of the Dallas ISD schools selects its campus-level Teacher of the Year and Teacher Assistant of the Year. In addition, all schools are eligible to submit these names for consideration in the selection of the district-level Teacher of the Year and Teacher Assistant of the Year. The Teacher and Teacher Assistant of the Year are selected based on their ability to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and levels of ability. The following criteria are considered:

| Meshonda Cole Kennedy-Curry Middle School 2012 Dallas ISD Teacher of the Year "I encourage educators to make student growth and success a priority in schools. In my 10 years in education, I have focused on providing the best service to my school commmunity, my students, and their parents through consistent engagement and involvement in positive activities. I challenge educators to create a strong parental support system and to build a relationship with their students to motivate and challenge them to reach their full individual potential.
