UNIFORMS FOR STUDENTS PRE-K - 8

In an effort to improve student learning and to facilitate a safe learning environment, the District is mandating student uniforms for students in prekindergarten–grade 8. Student uniforms will encourage and teach students the appropriate attire for various settings, including the school environment. Student uniforms will also ensure campuses are able to easily identify their students to better secure the campus.

Effective the 2005–06 school year, the District shall require all students prekindergarten–grade 8 to wear a school uniform. All clothing must adhere to the standards set out below. All garments must be on an approved color as per the guidelines established in this policy.

The District shall not require specific brands of clothing. The items listed in the APPROPRIATE ATTIRE FOR PRE-K–GRADE 8 STUDENTS category for prekindergarten–grade 8 call for general clothing items with a common color selection so that what is appropriate at one school is also appropriate at another. All students prekindergarten–grade 8 shall wear the approved school uniform unless the parent or guardian has filed an objection as provided in FNCA(LEGAL) and (REGULATION).

FUNDING SOURCE

The Superintendent of Schools shall ensure funds are available for the clothing needs of educationally disadvantaged students who cannot afford to purchase uniforms.

All gifts, grants, and bequests shall be accepted in accordance with CDC(Local).

REQUEST FOR EXEMPTION - OBJECTION PROCESS

The complaint procedures outlined in FNG(LOCAL) and FNCA(REGULATION) allow a parent or guardian of a student to request the student be exempted from the mandatory uniform requirement on the basis of a bona fide religious or philosophical objection.
