Her journey began as a first-generation college student in Puerto Rico, where she cultivated a deep reverence for learning and community service instilled by her parents. Armed with a Bachelor's in Office Systems from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s in Urban School Leadership from Southern Methodist University, Mrs. Avila seamlessly transitioned from a successful career in Human Resources to her true calling in education.
For the past 18 years, Mrs. Avila has been a cornerstone of the Dallas ISD, leaving an indelible mark across diverse communities. Starting as a High School English Teacher in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and later completing the Alternative Certification Program while teaching at Bayles Elementary, she quickly established herself as a pillar of support and innovation within the educational landscape. Her roles as a first-grade teacher, Reading Instructional Coach, and Early Learning Specialist underscore her commitment to nurturing student potential and improving educational practices.
Mrs. Avila’s leadership extends far beyond the classroom. She has transformed Title 1 and turnaround campuses, achieving remarkable academic milestones and fostering inclusive, positive school environments. Her expertise in instructional strategies, evidenced by her role in presenting professional development for the Dallas ISD Reading Department and serving as a Campus Instructional Coach, speaks volumes about her dedication to continuous improvement.
