Chess Club MS
Sponsor: Mr. Posner, jposner@dallasisd.org
In middle school chess, all skill levels are welcome. Each Monday from 3:30-4:30pm we will learn or practice a new skill or strategy on ChessKid.com and then play a live game with other students in the club.
We have two tournaments during the year on Saturday, November 11th at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy and Saturday, April 20th at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy. By joining the chess club, students are committing to attend the tournament if they are selected. We can only take 10 students to the tournament, so if we have more than 10 students in the club, we will have a club tournament to determine which players will attend the district tournaments.
There will also be a few additional tournament opportunities throughout the year if we have enough interest from the team. When these tournaments are announced, I’ll send information via Remind. The Remind code for Chess Club is whilamsc.

Challenge
Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students ages 9-16* engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.
