    Dear Parents/ Guardian:

The Dr. Barbara Jordan Elementary Faculty and Staff take great pride in giving our students the best education. The accreditation guidelines by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) require that each student receive an allocated amount of minutes per day in each subject area. It is very important that we abide by those guidelines. There are specific educational objectives known as TEKS and they are required for each subject area at all grade levels.

The Dr. Barbara Jordan Elementary Faculty and Staff need your support. We are asking that you help us protect these precious instructional minutes and opportunities by: having our children present daily; allowing us to do our jobs-which begin promptly upon your child’s arrival at the entrance door of the school; and only picking up your child for emergency purposes. Anyone who wants to pick up student(s) will be required to show a valid identification (I.D.) and must be listed on the student’s enrollment form. Emergencies, doctor appointments and sudden illness in the immediate family. Assist us to better serve your child by not picking up the student during the last hour of school (2:15 p.m.-3:15 p.m.). The last hour of school is when teachers are bringing closure to the lessons for the day and explaining homework assignments. School dismisses at 3:15 p.m.

Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten students who are in the gym will exit towards the circular driveway. First, Second and Third grade riders will be picked up in the drop-off lane on Kiest Blvd. Non-riders will be picked up on the black top. Fourth and Fifth graders will exit toward the circular drive. The drop-off lane in front of the building is for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up for First, Second and Third grade riders only. No parking is allowed at any time.
The following information is to inform parents /guardians of how you can help in making sure that the TEA guidelines are adhered to and thus being an important support to your child’s success in the instructional programs at Dr. Barbara Jordan Elementary. All Campus Visitors Must Sign In at the Main Office.
