Lauren ShawPrincipalHexter Elementary School(972) 502-5802
Hello Hexter Students, Teachers, Staff, Parents, and Community!
I am looking forward to meeting you all and I am so excited to join the Hexter family!
I am a Dallas ISD alumna, attending DISD schools starting in Kindergarten and I graduated from W.T. White High School.
After graduating from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Applied Learning and Development (Elementary Education), I returned to Dallas and taught third grade self-contained at Arthur Kramer Elementary School. I taught third grade for four years, and then I moved to T.C. Marsh Middle School to teach sixth grade. This was the first year that sixth grade was in Dallas middle schools and we worked hard to put together new teams that centered on students and effective classroom instruction. The school became a “Recognized” campus within three years. During my time at Marsh, I took on many leadership roles including department chair, team leader, sixth grade camp director, cheer coach, and mentor teacher. During this time, I also earned my Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas.
After teaching at Marsh for just over six years, I moved to J.L. Long Middle School to be the Associate Principal. During the past seven years at Long, I have worked with the Reading and Language Arts department, served as principal intern mentor, and led the implementation of positive student culture systems. We have had significant gains on our climate survey and the Reading and Language Arts department has earned five TEA distinctions.
I look forward to working with you as a team on all of the wonderful things that are already happening at Hexter!
It is an honor to serve the Hexter students, teachers, staff, parents, and community!
