Toothaches caused by poor oral hygiene are one of the top reasons children miss school. A program at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry helps resolve this chronic problem for elementary and junior high school students from throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area by putting plastic coatings called sealants on their teeth. The sealants protect against tooth decay.

The spring and fall Sealant Days are sponsored by the Asian-American Dental Society at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry. Children between the ages of six and 14 visit the Department of Pediatric Dentistry where they are treated by students under the careful guidance of faculty members and area dentists in private practice. Since the program began in 1998, more than 2100 children have been served.
