Coach Gil Baber was born and raised in Madill, Oklahoma and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University as an undergraduate. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and also played Football. He moved to Garland shortly after graduation where he taught Geography and coached a variety of sports (both boys and girls) at Naaman Forest High School. After seven years of teaching and coaching in Garland ISD, he decided to go to Dallas ISD and was a teacher and coach at Sunset High School. He served as Lead Health Teacher, Defensive Coordinator and Head Tennis Coach. He spent thirteen years at Sunset High School with his last 4 years serving as Female Athletic Coordinator, DEC member, and serving on the CILT Team as well as heading up the Sunset Leadership Academy. During his tenure at Sunset HS, he went back to school to earn a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Texas and received his Principal’s Certificate. He has taught at Molina High School for the past 2 years and served as Female Coordinator as well as SSI Principal, Saturday School Principal, member of the CILT Team and BOC teams. Coach Baber’s wife Amy is also in education in Kaufman ISD as a special education diagnostician. He also has a daughter, Peyton, who just finished her freshman year at the University of Oklahoma and a stepdaughter Lauren Quarrington who is married and has a son Hagen and a daughter on the way in September.
