Principal Tameka Whitney

    Dear DESA Community,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of Dallas Environmental Science Academy. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community. I feel very fortunate to be part of this school and to support the students and families. I am grateful to have been selected to join the DESA family, which is known for its dedication to excellence, but more importantly, to children. Over the past 15 years, I have worked as a teacher and administrator, but I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate. I will spend a lot of time with your children, getting to know their personalities, learning styles and interests. I will celebrate their successes, small and large. I will encourage them every day and let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school community.

I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of DESA this year and in the years to come. Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions. I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students. Because the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible.

Along with the teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established by DESA by building strong relationships with parents, students and community partners.

As your Principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors--teachers, students and parents--are excited to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. Please know that my door is always open to you, and I look forward to developing relationships with you and learning from you. I heartily welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year and can’t wait to celebrate our collective successes during the 2020 – 2021 school year.
