Sunset Robotics, based on their performance at the Regional Championship, earned an invitation to compete at the UIL 5A-6A State Championships for Robotics this past Friday 5/19 in Austin. The top 32 qualifying Robotics programs from all over Texas were sent an invite to compete in the First Tech Challenge Velocity Vortex competition. Two other Dallas ISD teams received an invitation to compete at the State Championships for First Tech Challenge, Townview and Bryan Adams. After 5 qualification matches, Sunset was chosen by Westlake High School(Austin) to form an alliance along with Vista Ridge HS (Cedar Park). (The alliances are composed of 3 teams and we compete in a 2vs2 game in a best of 3 format)
Sunset won our match in the semifinals and our alliance won 2-0 to advance to the UIL State Championship Finals. Sunset won our match in the finals to contribute to the 2-1 victory over the strong Austin alliance and became part of the new UIL 5A-6A State Champions for Robotics. Our students did a fantastic job representing Dallas ISD and Sunset High School with hard work and dedication all year long since the game was revealed back in September. Attached are some of the pictures taken at the UIL State Championships. If you see our students please congratulate them on an extremely successful year in Robotics. We hope to build upon our successes this year and continuously improve our program.
