OUT FOR SAFE SCHOOLS
Out for Safe Schools
The Out for Safe Schools program is designed to provide teachers and other school staff with intervention strategies for instances of harassment and name-calling which often occur toward LGBTQ students. Teachers and other school staff are provided with a badge that is worn along with the Dallas ISD Identification badge as a cue or symbol of a person who is considered an ally for LGBTQ youth.
The Out for Safe Schools Program is made possible through a partnership between Dallas ISD and the Resource Center. The Resource Center is working in partnership with the GSAnetwork. Groups of individuals have already been trained on the Out for Safe Schools program and a cohort of individuals have received a trainer of trainer model to build local capacity that will help deliver training for a broader audience beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
Additionally, as part of the Out for Safe Schools Program, we are working to help each comprehensive campus to establish a GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) on their campus. The GSA’s will serve as the network for each campus to assist with the Out for Safe Schools training.
Additional information about the Out for Safe Schools Program is available in the Dallas ISD Hub as well as in the following articles:
