H.S. Thompson Bond Community Meeting
The new H.S. Thompson Elementary School can serve 675 students and is scheduled to open in August of 2021. The neighborhood school will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education and use research-based instruction that challenges students through innovative learning experiences aimed at preparing them for success in the 21st century.
H.S. Thompson ES is one part of a comprehensive plan aimed at addressing the expressed needs of our students and the greater South Dallas community. Through our conversations with local parents, teachers, principals, and community leaders, we acknowledge and embrace the need to reimagine, redesign, and repurpose space for our students to learn and to provide wraparound services for our families and community. The larger H.S. Thompson ES could potentially create space in neighboring schools, allowing us to propose an Early Childhood Center and provide community partnerships and resources to serve South Dallas. By initiating this holistic and comprehensive approach, we plan to create a model for other communities and districts to emulate, demonstrating how listening and planning together in unison will better address the needs of our students and create ongoing opportunities for success.
Additional meetings will be scheduled to continue to gather input for the building design and the selection of partnerships and resources vital to the success of our comprehensive plan. We look forward to hearing from each of you as we work together to support our students and community.
