    PHYSICAL HEALTH CRISIS

    MAJOR ILLNESS OR MAJOR INJURY

    For students experiencing major illness or major injury, 9-1-1 must be contacted.

    Bystanders, peers and faculty/staff, and parents may experience trauma related to a major illness or major injury to that of a student or faculty member. Such instances may include automobile accidents or other causes.

    When the campus is made aware of a major situation which can impact the campus, the following shall be followed:

     

    PROTOCOL:

  • THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR SHALL:

  • THE SCHOOL NURSE OR PERSON DIRECTED BY THE SCHOOL NURSE OR ADMINISTRATOR:

  • Once the student is admitted into the hospital, the student transitions from being a student to being a hospital patient and district employees shall refer the family to the the hospital for assistance.

  • THE SCHOOL NURSE OR PERSON DIRECTED BY THE SCHOOL NURSE OR ADMINISTRATOR:

  • THE PSYCHOLOGICAL AND SOCIAL SERVICES TEAM MEMBER WILL:

    When students and/or faculty members are involved in automobile accidents or experience a major illness, the traumatic effects can be extensive and require the assistance of professionals trained to handle the crisis.

    The departments associated with crisis associated with death may include:

     

    Dallas ISD employees experiencing difficulty with the death of a student or faculty member or with any other mental health issues may utilize the District’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

    THE EAP offers problem clarification, short-term counseling, mental health benefit referral, and crisis intervention to benefits eligible employees and / or their dependents who are experiencing personal/ emotional problems. These services are completely confidential and are available at no cost to the employee.
