Mr. Gio Macías
Gio graduated Magna Cum Laude, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Critical Languages and International Studies in German from the University of Texas at Arlington. His areas of minor included Spanish Language and Literature, as well as Localization and Translation. He plans on pursuing graduate studies in the coming months.
Gio joined Dallas Independent School District at Woodrow Wilson High School, mid-year immediately after graduating in 2018. He took on the challenges of classes that were without a teacher for a full semester, winning over his students, the faculty, and the administration. While at Woodrow Wilson, Gio sought out ways to contribute to his team outside of the classroom, joining the Campus Climate Improvement Team and serving as an on-campus interpreter, among other projects.
As an educator who continually seeks out professional development opportunities, Gio contributes to the language aquisition community through the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) and is also a member of the ACTFL, SWCOLT, and TFLA language organizations, as he is eager to exchange and adapt new strategies from the educational community that will benefit his students. Most recently, Gio participated in an AATG teacher development seminar at the University in Leipzig, Germany this summer to further his knowledge of pedagogical practices in a native German environment. He is excited to be a part of the talented team at North Lake Collegiate Academy, and to be able to share his passion for both the German and Spanish languages with his students through the lens of education.
