• Best things about ebooks:

    • You can check out a book any time, 24/7.
    • The books are returned automatically.  There's no way to have an overdue book.
    • You don't have to worry about losing or damaging a book.
    • It's free!

I first discovered online reading one year when I was sick during winter break.  I couldn't leave the house and I was bored, bored, bored!  Even if I could have left, nothing was open, no bookstore or library.  In the middle of the night, unable to sleep, I happened to remember that I had access to Dallas Pubic Library's ebooks.  I opened the app and had a book checked out in minutes!

    Try it, and get hooked!

    Sora

Sora is a free, simple app, and it's the platform that supports Dallas ISD's ebooks.  To use it, download it from your app store, choose Dallas ISD as your library, and sign in.  Your username is your school ID# and your password is the last four digits of your ID#. (Note to faculty and staff: Add "10" or "100" before your ID# to make it seven digits.)  Find a book and start reading!

    Overdrive

If you started reading ebooks from Dallas ISD before last year, you may have been reading using the Overdrive app.  This app is still fine.  In fact, Sora was created by Overdrive.  Sora was created specifically for schools, but if you prefer you can continue with Overdrive.

Did you know that you can get a Dallas Public Library card, even if you don't live in Dallas?  Just present your student ID showing that you attend a Dallas ISD school.  You can then access DPL's digital content through Overdrive.  Dallas Public Library, including all branches, is currently closed until further notice, but you can still get a card and gain access to digital content. Just call your local branch (http://dallaslibrary2.org/hours.php) or email librarycustomerservice@dallaslibrary.org.

In addition, Mesquite Public Library offers an ecard to anyone, regardless of residence, for access to digital content.  Although Mesquite libraries are currently closed, you can still request an ecard by filling out this form.  You can use your Overdrive app for this content, as well.
