Mr. Marvin Gonzalez

Media Specialist/Librarian/STEM-Computer Science

Hi, my name is Marvin Gonzalez and I am the Media Specialist/School Librarian at Downtown Montessori at Ida B. Wells Academy. I have been with Dallas ISD for 21 years, and this will be my 14th year as a media specialist. The first 8 years I taught bilingual/ ESL dual language. I have a bachelors degree in Geography, a Masters degree in bilingual education, and my school librarian EC-12 certification from TX Woman’s University program from Dallas ISD AC certification. I am a father of five children and have lead many of their extra curricular activities, such as coaching soccer, and baseball teams and leading a scout den. From my library I’ve led stem, chess, lego and robotics clubs and more. The reason I became a librarian/media specialist is that as a teacher I went to a seminar by Stephen Krashen who made a striking case that implementing library resources into students learning would improve their academic performance. I did this with my ESL students and to everyone’s shock, they scored 25% higher than native English speakers on the annual assessment that was given in English. This was a game changer for me and I became passionate about bringing all of the resources possible to learners and have been doing so ever since.

The primary goal of Montessori education is to prepare the whole child to reach his full potential in all areas of life. ~ Dr. Maria Montessori

~ Dra. María Montessori

Spanish Language Guide

I am a Spanish and TAG teacher who has been teaching for over 18 years. I love to read, write short stories and poems, travel and most of all play with my grandkids. English was my third language to  learn, but now my primary language and I really love to learn about as many cultures as possible. I am very big into "project-based" learning and started with my own three kids at home even before I became a teacher. I am and will always be exploring something new as a life-long learner. This year, I am taking on the basics of "coding." Never thought I'd speak that language...LOL!

¡LOL!
