Please read the play “Machinal” by Sophie Treadwell.
Machinal was written in 1928. Sophie Treadwell was a journalist and a playwright. She was inspired to write this play by the real-life case of convicted and executed murderer Ruth Snyder. It is considered one of the best examples of an Expressionistic play found in the American Theatre.
Because it was written in 1928, it is no longer in the public Domain and can easily be found online.
There will a short quiz about the play when we return to school in the fall.
