As the school principal for one of the top-performing schools in Texas for gifted and talented students, Tom Brandt brings his passion for the whole child approach to William B. Travis Academy. Before joining Travis TAG, Mr. Brandt taught for ten years with his last year as an AP U.S. History teacher at Townview. He then moved into school administrative roles as an assistant principal at Townview and W. T. White high schools, and served as the Preston Hollow Elementary principal from 2014-2018.
The 2020-21 school year will be his 22nd year in education and his third year as the principal of Travis TAG. He is an alum of the Teaching Trust Teams program, Principal Impact Collaborative, and Raise Your Hand Texas – all programs to build leadership capacity and lead effective schools.
Mr. Brandt believes, “at Travis TAG, our vision is to continue to set the standard for talented and gifted instruction by inspiring and empowering life-long learning while supporting the unique potential of each student. Whether it is our history of success in academic competition, excellent electives program, or nationally recognized PTA, the Travis TAG name is synonymous with excellence in Dallas. This year, we are excited to build on this history of excellence with a commitment to Social Emotional Learning, added advanced academic courses, and a new addition to our building to house our award-winning electives.”
