Rules for Excused Absences

- A written statement signed by the parent explaining the student’s absences should be received by the attendance office within 3 days of the student’s returning to school.
- The statement must include the student’s name, ID number, and the date(s) of absence(s). (This signifies the parent’s knowledge and consent of the absence).
- Notes should be written on letterhead of the agency visited or of the organization represented. (i.e. Court, Religious organization, Government department, Military unit, etc...)
- Approvals for college visitations for Juniors and Seniors are limited to 2 days, with documentation.
- An obituary is required for death in the family.
- Five or more consecutive days of absences require a doctor’s note to be excused
- After 6 handwritten notes, additional absences will require supporting documentation and or approval by an administrator.
- Extenuating circumstances with PRIOR APPROVAL from an administrator may be excused. (Appropriate documentation required and subject to limitations in FDD (LEGAL)).
- The principal or appropriate designee may investigate any absence for verification.
- The district is not required to excuse an absence even if the parent provides a note explaining the absence.
