Music & Modern Band

My name is Enrique Andino, and I have the privilege to be the Music/Modern Band teacher at STAG in PG. I have taught general music and modern band with DISD since 2012 and have also taught private guitar lessons for many years. I am originally from Puerto Rico but have been living in the great state of Texas since 2008. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from The University of Texas at Arlington. Music has always been a very important part of my life and I have always enjoyed sharing my love of music with others. I started playing piano around 5^th grade and guitar in middle school and have never stopped making music since then. Learning music taught me from a young age how to collaborate with others and how to express my ideas and feelings in a positive way. I am very honored to have the chance to work with such a great group of students and look forward to continuing the growth we saw during the past year. During my time off from school I enjoy traveling, riding my bike, spending time with my wife and family and our cat Queri, and trying out food from different countries. 

Mi nombre es Enrique Andino y tengo el privilegio de ser el maestro de Música y Banda Moderna de STAG en PG. He sido maestro de música y banda moderna en DISD desde el 2012 y también he sido maestro de guitarra por muchos años. Soy originalmente de Puerto Rico, pero vivo en el gran estado de Tejas desde el 2008. Tengo un bachillerato en música de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y una maestría en educación musical de la Universidad de Texas en Arlington. La música siempre ha sido una parte muy importante de mi vida y siempre me ha gustado compartir mi amor por la música con los demás. Comencé a tocar el piano en 5to grado y la guitarra en la escuela intermedia y desde entonces nunca he dejado de hacer música. Aprender música me enseñó desde una temprana edad a cómo colaborar con otros y cómo expresar mis ideas y sentimientos de una manera positiva. Me siento muy honrado de tener la oportunidad de trabajar con un grupo tan talentoso de estudiantes y maestros y estoy seguro de que juntos seguiremos logrando grandes cosas. Durante mi tiempo libre disfruto viajar, andar en bicicleta, pasar tiempo con mi esposa y mi familia y nuestra gata Queri, y probar comida de diferentes países.

CTE (Career & Technical Education)

I was born and raised in El Paso, TX. I got my bachelors degree in Education in 2016 from the University of Texas at El Paso. I have taught 2nd grade for 2 years and technology for 2 years. I then received a Masters of Science in Informative Technology at the University of North Texas. My favorite part of working in Dallas ISD is the opportunity to coach in VEX robotics.  

Nací y crecí en El Paso, TX. Obtuve mi licenciatura en Educación en 2016 de la Universidad de Texas en El Paso. He enseñado segundo grado durante 2 años y tecnología durante 2 años. Luego recibí una Maestría en Cienciaen Tecnología Informativa en la Universidad del Norte de Texas. Mi parte favorita de trabajar en Dallas ISD es la oportunidad de entrenar en robótica VEX.

Library/Media Specialist

I am very proud to be a member of the School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove staff. As your librarian, I hope to instill a passion for reading and a love for books in every student. I have been an educator with DISD for 27 years, (10 as a 5^th grade teacher and the last 17 as a librarian/media specialist). I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) in 1989 and my master’s degree in Library Science from Texas A&M University (Commerce, Texas) in 2011. I am married (wife, Esther) and have two children (Matt, 26 and Kate, 21). We have 3 dogs, 1 cat, and a tarantula named Rosie. My hobbies include cheering for the Mavericks, Cowboys, Stars, and Rangers and creating and maintaining freshwater planted aquariums. 

Estoy muy orgulloso de ser un nuevo miembro del personal de la Escuela para Talentosos y Dotados en Pleasant Grove. Como su bibliotecario, espero inculcar la pasión por la lectura y el amor por los libros en cada estudiante. He sido educador con DISD durante 25 años (10 como maestro de quinto grado y los últimos 15 como bibliotecario/ especialista en medios). Recibí mi licenciatura en Psicología de Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) en 1989 y mi maestría en Bibliotecología de Texas A&M University (Commerce, Texas) en 2011. Estoy casado (esposa, Esther) y tengo dos hijos (Matt, 24 y Kate, 20). Tenemos 3 perros, 2 gatos, una tortuga, varios acuarios y una tarántula llamada Rosie. Mis pasatiempos incluyen animar a los Mavericks, Cowboys, Stars y Rangers y acuarios plantados de agua.

Art Teacher

My name is Joanna Figueroa, and I have the amazing opportunity to be your new Art Teacher. I am the daughter of Mexican immigrants who have instilled in me the drive to work hard in order to achieve my goals and dreams. I was born and raised in Oak Cliff and am a DISD alumnus. The teachers I encountered as a former student in DISD inspired me, motivated me and put me on the path to success; their passion was what inspired me to become an educator. I graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor in Art History. I am passionate about art and the power it has to show students the world around them and introduce them to cultures beyond their own. It is my goal to spark creativity and innovation in my students and get them excited about art! In my free time I love to paint, study Korean, listen to live music, explore museums and play with my dog Ollie.

Mi nombre es Joanna Figueroa he tenido la maravillosa oportunidad de ser su nueva maestra de Arte. Soy hija de inmigrantes mexicanos que me han impulsado a trabajar arduamente para lograr mis metas y sueños. Nací y Crecí en el condado de Oak Cliff y soy ex alumna de DISD. Las maestras y maestros con los que me he encontrado me han inspirado, motivado y me han puesto en el camino hacia el éxito; su pasión me inspiro a convertirme en una gran maestra. Me gradué de la Universidad de North Texas con un bachillerato de arte. Soy apasionada del arte y el poder que tiene para enseñarle a los estudiantes el mundo a su alrededor e introducirlos a nuevas culturas más allá de las suyas. Es mi meta inspirar la creatividad e innovación en mis estudiantes. En mi tiempo libre me encanta pintar, estudiar Coreano, escuchar música en vivo y jugar con mi perrito Ollie.

I am very excited to be joining the School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove School. I will be teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grade Spanish. I was raised in San Antonio and have lived in Austin, Houston and Chicago. I have a Master’s Degree in Education and have previously taught Bilingual Education as well Spanish (LOTE).  In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time outdoors and traveling with my family. I look forward to getting to know the parents, students and faculty at STAG in PG. 

Estoy muy emocionada de formar parte de la Escuela para Talentosos y Dotados en Pleasant Grove donde enseñaré español en los grados cuarto, quinto y sexto. Crecí en San Antonio y he vivido en Austin, Houston y Chicago. Recibí mi Maestría en Educación y anteriormente he enseñado Educación Bilingüe y español. En mi tiempo libre, me gusta leer, pasar tiempo al aire libre y viajar con mi familia. Espero pronto conocer a los padres, estudiantes y profesores de la comunidad escolar.

Hi!  My name is Nickolus Orr, and I am so excited to be a part of the TAG family as your new P.E. teacher! This is my first year teaching. I played four years of collegiate basketball, football and graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration from Missouri Western State University. As a Physical Education Teacher, I am focused on using the transformational power of movement to shape young people so they can change their community and become world changers. My goal is to help prepare students with the knowledge and skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle and instill healthy habits for a lifetime of love for wellness. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the movies, working out, and playing basketball.

¡Hola! ¡Mi nombre es Nickolus Orr, y estoy muy emocionado de ser parte de la familia TAG como su nuevo maestro de educación física! Este es mi primer año enseñando. Jugué cuatro años de baloncesto universitario, fútbol y me gradué con mi licenciatura en Administración de Recreación de la Universidad Estatal Occidental de Missouri. Como maestra de educación física, estoy enfocado en usar el poder transformador del movimiento para moldear a los jóvenes para que puedan cambiar su comunidad y convertirse en transformadores del mundo. Mi objetivo es ayudar a preparar a los estudiantes con el conocimiento y las habilidades para mantener un estilo de vida saludable e inculcar hábitos saludables para toda una vida de amor por el bienestar. Fuera de la escuela, disfruto pasar tiempo con mi familia, ir al cine, hacer ejercicio y jugar baloncesto.

Hi! My name is Ajuah Powell and I am thrilled to be your new Theatre director! I have been teaching theatre since 2017 and this will be my first year with Dallas ISD. Born and raised in New Jersey,  I am a first generation Liberian American. My performing arts journey began my freshman year in high school. In 2013, I moved to Texas to attain my BA from Prairie View A&M University where I studied Theatre. I performed in many productions onstage and gained behind the scenes experience. I am passionate about the art of storytelling as it reflects the culture, traditions, and lifestyles of my community. My goal is to inspire our youth to use storytelling as a tool to express themselves effectively, engage their communities in dialogue that will inspire change, and to give power to fresh perspectives and voices of the future. When I am not directing plays and musicals, I enjoy writing, dancing, and spending time with my family. 

Hola! Mi nombre es Ajuah Powell y estoy encantado de ser su nuevo director de teatro. He estado enseñando teatro desde 2017 y este será mi primer año con Dallas ISD. Nacido y criado en Nueva Jersey, soy un liberiano estadounidense de primera generación. Mi viaje por las artes escénicas comenzó mi primer año en la escuela secundaria. En 2013, me mudé a Texas para obtener mi licenciatura en Prairie View A&M University, donde estudié Teatro. Actué en muchas producciones en el escenario y gané experiencia detrás de escena. Me apasiona el arte de contar historias, ya que refleja la cultura, las tradiciones y los estilos de vida de mi comunidad. Mi objetivo es inspirar a nuestros jóvenes a usar la narración como una herramienta para expresarse de manera efectiva, involucrar a sus comunidades en un diálogo que inspire el cambio y para dar poder a nuevas perspectivas y voces del futuro. Cuando no estoy dirigiendo obras de teatro y musicales, disfruto escribir, bailar y pasar tiempo con mi familia.
