Antonia A. Duncan

Gifted/Talented (G/T)

Antonia Duncan graduated from The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas in 2004. After learning about the work of Dr. Maria Montessori when she was a student at UNT, she wished to someday work in a Montessori environment.  She believed so strongly in the value of a Montessori education that she moved to Dallas ISD to join in the revolutionary movement to make a Montessori education accessible to more families in the area.  After eight years in the classroom as an elementary generalist (2004-20012), and eight more years as an advocate and specialist for gifted and talented students (since 2012), Antonia is thrilled to work as a G/T Program Guide at the brand new Downtown Montessori at Ida B. Wells Academy.  While continuing her work as an advocate for the needs of gifted learners, she is simultaneously training to earn AMI certification as an elementary Montessori guide from the Montessori Institute of North Texas.  In addition to being a passionate educator, and a lifelong learner, Mrs. Duncan is also a music lover, and an amateur singer and dancer.  She currently lives in Dallas with her husband and three children.

I am a proud educator with the vision of providing a highly advanced and integrated learning where students thrive in their assimilation of knowledge, relations with the environment and peaceful smart interactions with each other, to achieve development and transformation as ultimate goal of the human race.

My mission is to educate the whole human being with the principles of love for the environment and others, focus on human relations, critical thinking, and creative transformation.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, with a minor in French. Spanish is my native language. I am about to graduate from UNT Dallas with a master’s degree in STEM Educational Leadership. I am also pursuing my certification in Montessori Core Principles and Lower Elementary at the Montessori Institute of North Texas. I have worked as a bilingual educator for four years in Dallas ISD and before I performed communication coordinator’s jobs in different fields, such as tourism, agriculture, and economics. I am a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success. I enjoy volunteering as a translator in church and community events.

Originally from Cuba, I am a woman of faith who loves traveling, outdoors, the beach, and to spend time with my family and friends. I believe in Dr. Montessori when she says that “the child is both a hope and a promise for the mankind”.

One of the most powerful reasons why I became an educator is reflected in my favorite Montessori quote below…

“Whoever touches the life of the child touches the most sensitive point of a whole, which has roots in the most distant past and climbs toward the infinite future.”
