The Magnet Schools Application Initiative was developed as a collaborative effort of the Centralized Enrollment and MagnetPrograms Department and the Racial Equity Office (REO), following the Fall 2018 REO report on student access to Dallas ISD schools of choice. The initiative aims to increase qualified in-district students applying to and accepted by the district’s MagnetSchools.

The initiative consists of two parts. First, intensive recruiting efforts targeting students and families in neighborhoods with low numbers of African American and English Learner students enrolled in Magnet programs. Targeted feeder patterns include Lincoln, Madison, Roosevelt, South Oak Cliff, and Carter. This year the Pinkston, Conrad, and Adamson feeder patterns will be added. Once the recruitment drive is underway, increased assistance will be offered to students and parents navigating the application process.

While direct recruitment will be limited to students in the targeted feeder patterns, all Dallas ISD students are welcome to attend the workshops.

As in previous years, the Department of Evaluation & Assessment will identify all students enrolled in District schools who meet eligibility requirements for admission to selective Magnet Schools. An individualized list will be provided to each magnet school and used to contact parents of identified students and invite them to the recruitment events.

Advisors will guide parents and students through the application process. Each advisor will be assigned students as advisees and will be responsible for assisting those students by completing the application process, including meeting assessment and documentation requirements.
