The Aviation Flight pathway will begin enrolling students in the Fall of 2020. This pathway is designed to meet the needs of students interested in pursuing careers in aerospace, aviation, air traffic control, and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operators or electro-mechanical technicians. There is a significant need in this industry, as many pilots and air traffic controllers are retiring without qualified replacements in the pipeline.
Construction and Carpentry/ Construcción y Carpintería
This course is an introduction to the carpentry trade and its application as a career in the construction industry. Basic building materials and construction methods are thoroughly covered in preparation for the program’s projects. Each course has a laboratory component that applies classroom curriculum to assigned shop projects, includes appropriate local field trips, and begins site preparation and layout for the fall and spring semester’s class projects.
The Cybersecurity pathway is designed to prepare students for the growing field of cybersecurity and computer science. Cybersecurity is the protection of internet-connected systems, including hardware, software, and data from malicious attacks. Once a specialty only associated with government agencies and defense contractors, cybersecurity has now entered the mainstream. Industries such as health care, finance, manufacturing, and retail all hire cybersecurity professionals.
Electrical and Solar Technology/ Electricidad y Tecnología Solar
The Electrical and Solar Technology pathway introduces students to the basic principles of electricity and proceeds to the concepts of solid-state components such as diodes, transistors, integrated circuits and microprocessor systems, according to the National Electrical Code. Courses simulate actual working conditions in fully equipped laboratories where students put electrical-electronics theory into practice. Along with laboratory experiences setting up circuits, troubleshooting and calibrating systems, computer-simulated circuit analysis is used in many of the courses.
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration/ Calefacción, Ventilación, Aire Acondicionado y Refrigeración
The HVAC/R pathway concentrates on many of the important side issues in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) field. Students will learn trade-specific basic safety practices, hand and power tools identification and usage, metal piping systems, the fundamentals of electricity, and basic heating systems. Additionally, students will earn the OSHA Safety Certification. Each HVAC course prepares students for success as they train for their senior-level Practicum in Construction Technology.
Interior Design/ Diseño de Interiores
The Interior Design pathway is designed to meet the needs of students interested in pursuing a career in residential or commercial Interior Design. Interior Design students will gain knowledge and skills about space planning; interior building materials and finishes; casework, furniture, furnishings and equipment; lighting; acoustics; wayfinding; ergonomics and anthropometrics; and human environmental behavior.
Mechatronics and Advanced Manufacturing/ Mecatrónica y Fabricación Avanzada
The Mechatronics/ Advanced Manufacturing pathway is designed to prepare students for the growing field of mechatronics, manufacturing, and industrial robotics. Mechatronics is a blending of electrical and mechanical engineering and design. It is a study of the design of “intelligent” systems to achieve improved product quality and performance. In this inquiry-grounded project-based learning course, students act as engineers, designing, analyzing, and building systems that automate industrial processes.
Plumbing and Pipefitting/ Plomería e Instalación de Tuberías
The Plumbing and Pipefitting Pathway is an instructional program that prepares individuals to practice as licensed plumbers or pipefitters by applying technical knowledge, safety and skills to layout, assemble, install and maintain plumbing fixtures and systems for steam, natural gas, oil, hot water, heating, cooling, drainage, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems in the home and business environments. The program combines classroom and practical learning experiences that correspond with applicable codes and standards.
Health Sciences/ Ciencias de la Salud
The Patient Care Technician program of study introduces students to occupations and educational opportunities related to diagnosing and treating acute, episodic, or chronic illness independently or as part of a healthcare team. While pursuing a career in the health science industry, students will learn to reason, think critically, make decisions, solve problems, communicate effectively, and work well with others.
The Pharmacy Technician program of study introduces students to occupations and educational opportunities related to the pharmacy profession. Students will learn skills to perform tasks such as: receiving prescription requests from patients and doctors’ offices, accurately measuring medication amounts, packaging, and labeling prescriptions, establishing, and maintaining patient records, accepting payment for prescriptions, processing insurance claims, and managing inventory.
The Dental Assistant program of study is designed to initiate secondary students to the field of dentistry and related topics. Students will be able to identify dental related career pathways; explain dental legal and ethical responsibilities; recognize professional healthcare behavior and demeanor; and perform routine dental office procedures. The purpose of this program is to prepare secondary students for a future career in dentistry as a Registered Dental Assistant.
The Phlebotomy & EKG program of study is designed to initiate secondary students to the field of diagnostic medicine. This program introduces students to occupations and education opportunities related to performing complex medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This program of study will also include exploration into the opportunities associated with blood laboratories.
