Ms. Susan Floyd

Ms. Susie Floyd was born in Perth Scotland (UK) and grew up with her father teaching quantity surveying and Architecture at Edinburgh University.  She studied her BA (Honors) in Communication Design at Portsmouth University UK and then graduated with her postgraduate in teacher training specializing in Art, Craft and Design from the University of Brighton UK. She also achieved a postgraduate certificate in Psychotherapy the same year. 

Susie’s career started as a high school theatre arts and fine arts teacher in London which led her on a path of Pastoral Leadership and Dean of Students.  She was employed by The British school of Washington DC and celebrated 20 years in the USA this year becoming a citizen in 2012. Susie has had the most amazing opportunities in her education career working at schools like The British School, Sidwell Friends Middle School and the Lab School in Washington DC. During her time in DC she earned her Master's degree in Education and Human Development, specializing in Counseling from The George Washington University, Washington DC.

Susie is passionate about creating balance in her own life so you will find her walking her dog Stella Blue, traveling and hiking, meditating, reading, practicing yoga, journaling and setting goals. Going to concerts, cycling, gardening and working on her art projects. A hiking trip in Big Bend National Park led Susie to fall in love with and stay in Texas. 

Susie is a skilled counselor with a strong background helping trauma/crisis clients overcome personal challenges and creating coping strategies for life in general. Susie loves to combine her art/art therapy skills with Counseling/teaching SEL/guidance whenever she can. She is a licensed school counselor in Virginia and Texas. Approximately 20 years of success as an accomplished and experienced educator and is currently working towards her Licensed Professional Counseling certification. Susie is very much looking forward to being part of the Leadership team at Solar Preparatory School for Girls and will strive daily to support all of her students' social and emotional wellbeing.
