Biography:
Jacody Coleman enters his second season at Skyline High School as athletic coordinator and head football coach. Prior to joining Skyline, Coleman served as the assistant football coach and defensive coordinator for Atascocita High School in Humble ISD.
Coleman worked various roles since 2012 when he joined Atascocita’s football program, including special teams’ coordinator, linebackers coach, video coordinator and equipment room coordinator.
Coleman helped field strong defensive teams at Atascocita. In 2019, the Eagles limited opponents to an average of 111 yards and 11.4 points per game, while in 2015 opponents averaged no more than 71 rushing yards per game. In 2014, when Coleman served as linebackers coach, the three starting linebackers earned all-district honors. Additionally, the team’s defensive unit ranked No.1 in total defense for the district that same year.
During his 10 years at Atascocita, the Eagles were one of the state’s top 6A programs, recording an impressive 111 wins against 22 losses. Atascocita reached the 6A Division I regional finals in three of his last six seasons, including the 2016 season when it reached the state semifinals and totaled a school-record of 13 victories.
He began his coaching career at his alma mater Beaumont West Brook High School in the spring 2011 but followed his high school coach Craig Stump to Atascocita.
A 2007 West Brook graduate, Coleman was the Most Valuable Player in District 21-5A in 2006, the same season he earned honorable mention all-state honors. He earned second-team district honors as a junior after garnering honorable mention recognition as a sophomore. During his high school career, he totaled 265 tackles, including 22 sacks and 35 tackles for loss, while forcing seven fumbles and recovering three. A well-rounded high school athlete, he also earned letters in basketball, power lifting and track & field.
Coleman played college football at Iowa after considering TCU, Baylor, Florida, and Missouri. He was selected team captain for the Hawkeyes and spent 3 ó years in the program before returning to Beaumont to attend Lamar, which reinstated its football program in 2010. He earned a bachelor’s in general studies with a minor in communication from Lamar in 2011.
Coleman and his wife Judith have five children: Kaison, Kartier, Blaise, Hazel, and Jade.
