HVAC & Refrigeration[Architecture and Construction Cluster] |
The HVAC/R program of study concentrates on many of the important issues in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) field. Students will learn trade specific basic safety practices, hand and power tool identification and usage, metal piping systems, the fundamentals of electricity, and basic heating systems. Additionally, students will earn OSHA Safety Certification. Each HVAC course prepares students for success as they train for their senior level Practicum in Construction Technology.
The practicum includes a non-paid, campus-based internship, or a paid off-campus apprenticeship with an industry partner where the student can begin earning real-world experience. During their senior year, students over the age of 18 are encouraged to apply for the A/C Registered Technician Certification. Following an additional two years of experience under a licensed A/C contractor, and successful completion of an approved training program, students may apply for the A/C Certified Technician Certification. After four years of experience, students are eligible to apply for an A/C Contractor’s License.
The HVAC/R program of study is currently available and open for enrollment at Career Institute East, Career Institute North and the Career Institute South. |
