AVID
AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a global nonprofit organization, and its mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing ALL students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID is:
- A school-wide college-readiness system
- A structured approach to a rigorous curriculum
- An in-school academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success
- Professional development for educators
AVID began in Dallas ISD in 2002. It has flourished over the years and is in practice at over 50 campuses. There are three National Demonstration Schools: New Tech High School at B.F. Darrell, Bryan Adams High School, and Thomas J. Rusk Middle School. Felix G. Botello Elementary School and Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School are the district's flagship elementary campuses.
