Collegiate Alma Mater:
Greenville (Ill.) College, 1987
Bobby Estes became the campus athletic coordinator and head football coach at Thomas Jefferson High School in January 2024 after serving in an interim capacity during the 2023 season. He came out of retirement in June 2023 to be the defensive coordinator at the school, but he took over as interim coach when the previous coach departed in July.
Last year’s Patriots’ team finished with a 4-6 record. It produced its first district win and most wins in several seasons. He contributes this to the installation of an offseason built around strength, conditioning, and skill improvement. Jefferson is fortunate to have a group of young coaches dedicated to the development of these young men in all phases of their lives: mental, physical, and spiritual.
The 2025 season will be Estes’ 38th year as a high school football coach, which also includes 26 years as a head coach with positions at Woodrow Wilson High School (1999-2019) and North Dallas High School (2019-2022) as well as Moisés E. Molina High School, where he was the interim head football coach from 1997-1998. He owns a career record of 149-127.
North Dallas ended a 68-year playoff drought in 2020 and the Bulldogs reached the playoffs in 2021, his final season at the school. Estes and his coaching staff have contributed to the careers and success of several, including Greg McCoy and Sergio Kindle, who were drafted and played in the National Football League. Some of his former players have played in the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, fought overseas, and have become leaders in their communities.
His career began in 1987 as an assistant at Garland High School. He later served as the defensive coordinator at West Mesquite High School. North Dallas ended a 68-year playoff drought in 2020 and the Bulldogs reached the playoffs in 2021, his final season.
Estes graduated from Lakeview Centennial High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in English education from Greenville College in Illinois.
He has been married to his wife Barbara for 37 years. She has sat through numerous games as a parent and fan. Estes coached his sons, Jordan and Justin who are graduates of Woodrow Wilson.
