Claudio Urbina is in his third year as the athletic coordinator and head football coach at W.H. Adamson High School. Urbina is a 2000 Adamson graduate and is a 17-year veteran of Dallas ISD, including positions at L.G. Pinkston and Wilmer-Hutchins high schools.
The Leopards finished 5-5 last year and finished fifth in District 5-5A, Division II. Urbina spent nine seasons (2013-2022) as the football defensive coordinator at Wilmer-Hutchins and won football district titles in 2013, 2018, and 2020 with the 2013 and 2020 teams reaching the area round of the playoffs.
On the soccer pitch, Urbina was the 2022 District 11-4A coach of the year after guiding his team to a 14-7-2 record, a district championship, and an appearance in the area playoffs. His soccer teams at Wilmer-Hutchins claimed district championships in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2022 with his 2015 team reaching the regional final and his 2016 squad reaching the area round. He also was the district coach of the year in 2015 and 2016.
At Pinkston, he served as the boys’ soccer head coach and was an assistant football coach from 2007-2013. Urbina taught social studies and was the 2017 Wilmer-Hutchins teacher of the year.
Urbina earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Paul Quinn College in 2005. He played football for the Tigers and served as team captain. He was the school’s offensive lineman of the year in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Urbina earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University in 2023.
As a student-athlete at Adamson, he played football and was a member of the track & field team as a shot put and discus thrower. He earned first-team all-district honors on both the offensive and defensive lines in both 1998 and 1999.
Urbina and his wife Monica have sons Daniel Villegas (25), Sergio Valencia (18), Claudio Urbina Jr. (7) and daughters Alessandra Urbina (10) and Natalia Urbina (9).
