Josh Ragsdale returned to Dallas ISD as the athletic coordinator and head football coach at Emmett J. Conrad High School in 2020 and made an immediate impact. In his first season, the Chargers finished with their best record since 2013, and in 2022, matched the most wins in a season in Conrad history with their six wins. The Chargers followed up with five wins in 2023.

Prior to joining Conrad, Ragsdale served as an assistant football coach and teacher in Kemp ISD. Prior to that, he spent three years at South Garland High School as the boys’ coordinator and head football coach as well as nine years at W.H. Adamson High School in Dallas ISD. For six of those years, he was the athletic coordinator and head football coach. He began his coaching career at Sulphur Springs High School and worked at Crandall High School before coming to Dallas ISD.

In his first season at Adamson in 2010, the Leopards broke a 31-game losing streak, finishing the year 6-4, the most wins in a season for the school since 1989. Two years later, Ragsdale led the Leopards to a playoff berth for the third time in 66 years. In 2013, he was named Dallas ISD’s athletic coordinator of the year for his work at Adamson. That summer, the Leopards coaching staff led the East Team to a 21-8 win in the North Texas Bowl DFW Classic.

In 2015, the Genesis Women’s Shelter of Dallas honored Ragsdale with their “HeRo Award” (He Respects Others) for his role in the Adamson Leopard Domestic Violence Awareness Project. Later, he was recognized with the “Spirit of Sport” Award by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) for the project. The award was presented to him by the UIL at its annual state track and field championships in Austin, Texas.

He is a graduate of Forney High School and Texas A&M University at Commerce, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism. In 2016, Ragsdale became a “certified athletic administrator” (CAA) through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). He is also a certified interscholastic coach (CIC) through the NFHS.
